For 28, residents signing up to the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council scheme will receive 19 green garden waste collections from March through to December, the peak growing season. And, as an extra incentive, those signing up before 1 March will get twice as much of their green garden waste collected, with an additional sack added free of charge. Last year 3,995 people in the borough join the scheme, sending an impressive 950 tonnes of garden waste for composting. But in 2010 the council would like more people to sign up for the collection. Everything collected in the green garden waste bags is composted locally to produce bags of Pro-Grow, high quality organic soil conditioner to help gardens grow. Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change Cllr Elaine Still said: The green garden waste collection serv- ice is not only environmentally friendly turning your old grass cuttings and hedge clippings into Pro-Grow it is also a con- venient and easy way to recycle your gar- den waste Every little bit residents can do to recycle more and waste less makes a huge difference to the amount we as a bor- ough recycle. I would like to encourage people to go green in the garden and take advantage of this extra bag offer before 1 March. For more information or to sign up visit www.basingstoke.gov.uk/ or call 01256 844844. Residents signing up to the scheme after 1 March 2010 will be charged 10 for each additional sack. There is no limit to the number of sacks a resident can have.
