Police arrest 193 New Year revellers A r e y o u w e l l c o n n e c t e d ? POLICING of New Year s Eve in Hampshire was a resounding success, despite thousands of calls being from residents. Hampshire Constabulary took more than 3,200 calls in 24 hours, a five per cent increase on last year. Around 1,500 police consta- bles and sergeants and 900 members of staff were on duty at some point during the day. In all, 193 people were arrested across the county. Assistant Chief Constable Laura Nicholson said: New Year s Eve is always a busy time for policing, particularly in our big towns and cities. With many people out par- tying and enjoying them- selves, our job is to make sure they have a safe night. I am pleased to say that this year our officers provided an effective response to that high demand and made sure peo- ple were able to get home safely. RESIDENTS in Basingstoke are being encouraged to find out if they can receive super- fast broadband now provided in the borough. A postcode checking service has been launched online to inform residents whether they can receive the service, which could boost business in the town. It is hoped that the quicker internet connection will encourage more businesses to the borough and the service has been praised by borough councillor Keith Chapman, who described it as a great step forward. Cllr Jonathan Glen, executive member for economic develop- ment at Hampshire County Council, said: The postcode checker will hopefully provide an easy way for Basingstoke residents to find out if they are part of the first phase upgrade to super-fast broadband. I would urge people with poor service levels who dis- cover they are not part of this initial phase to leave their details on the eHampshire site to help us continue to press Openreach for better broad- band in the Basingstoke area. Residents can check if they are eligible by visiting www. ehampshire.org Got talent? BUDDING musicians should get along to an event in Basingstoke next month. An open mike session takes place at Central Studio on Friday February 5 from 7.30pm. The event is free. For more information, call 01256 418318. WHO ARE AMBERWOOD? New Kids on the Block? No , Roy Ward and Dermot O Sullivan are probably the most experienced home improvement specialists in the Basingstoke and Tadley area. Embarrassingly for him, such is Roy s experience (and age) in conservatories that he is often referred to as Mr Conservatory and Dermot is not only known for his Gaelic charm but also manufactured and installed windows and doors some 25 years ago. For the last 12 years Roy and Dermot have managed the sales for Allstyle Windows who built up an enviable reputation for quality of installation and products. Recently AlIstyle withdrew from the home improvement market and so Dermot and Roy decided they were in the perfect situation to add Pvc home improvements to their range of high quality Timber windows and Doors already offered by Amberwood Designs. So what do Roy and Dermot have to offer the local purchaser of home improve- ments that isn t already out there? Roy Ward said: "During the last few weeks an Energy spokesman stated that Energy prices are likely to increase by a fur- ther 60 per cent in the next five years and whilst all home improvement companies could offer products that provide the maxi- mum insulation they often don t. For years Dermot and I have been promoting glazing that was far superior than anything offered locally because we felt it was in the best on 01189 820300 WINDOW, DOOR and CONSERVATORY REPAIRS. interests of the purchaser even though a lit- tle more expensive. The difference now is that everyone can offer as standard A rated maximum energy saving windows. Our difference is that as we have been using these type of products for years so we have a head start. However, did you know that there are no insulation standards for conservatories but because many are used as dining rooms and playrooms, for years we have been recom- mending high performance Tripleshield glaz- ing in conservatories as well as windows?" Dermot O Sullivan, "For years we have chosen to promote high energy saving Tripleshield glass units. As an ex installer of Pvc windows I also knew that the stronger the pvc window and door the longer it would last. I decided many years ago to offer totally steel reinforced sections because I knew that although we paid more for them and they took longer to fit, they were so much better than partly reinforced windows as required by British Standards. Our new A rated windows are totally reinforced with a recycled fibrous material that is both strong and with good insulation properties." So what is different about Amberwood? Its straight-forward really, just honest advice from two renowned experts in their field offering the highest quality Pvc and Timber products at the very best prices. The philosophy of Dermot and Roy is simple, if you offer the best advice, use the very best products, offer the very best prices, use the very best installers and keep your overheads low then the customer will be delighted and the company will prosper. Give a call to Roy or Dermot and you will receive Free advice, Free written quotations, No pressure and even a little Gaelic charm.
