39 Thursday October 1st - Wednesday October 7th, 2009 Thursday October 1st - Wednesday October 7th, 2009 39 Recruitment Staff Required G-Force Employment Ltd has an immediate requirement for the following staff: Sport City pressure leaves Boatmen all at sea PICTURE BY Michael Allen Oxford City striker Mark Janes celebrates his 58th minute winner OXFORD City advanced into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup by overcoming high-fliers VT FC, who are currently unbeaten atop the Zamaretto South and West division. City s victory over the Boatmen was far more convincing than the 1-0 score line suggested, as the vis- itors produced a superb all-round team performance. City were dominant in midfield, with veteran Dave Savage in impe- rious form, ably supported by the hard working Liam Malone and Darren Pond. VT were constantly on the back foot, unable to deal with City s slick passing moves, while the diminu- tive Lee Steele was giving the Boatmen s towering back line a torrid time. Richard Knight was rarely trou- bled in the City goal and Andy Baird and Andy Gunn easily dealt with the Boatman s long ball game, while fullbacks James Clarke and David Perpetuini had too much pace for the Boatmen on the flanks. Mark Janes, making his first start for the club, was soon in the game, setting off on numerous challenging runs and going close to opening City s account with a header on 20 minutes. Mark Bell was having great suc- cess down the left wing, sending in teasing crosses that Scott LGV Class 1 Drivers Milton Park, Banbury, Bicester & Thame Immediate INDUCTIONS available NOW! City started the second half the brighter side, with Mark Bell test- ing O Rourke with a 20-yard effort after taking the ball past several defenders. The pressure paid off for the visi- tors in the 58th minute. Liam Malone forced his way into the VT area, only to see his goal-bound effort blocked for a corner by Adam Camfield. From Mark Bell s corner, Mark Janes left several defenders flat footed to head home past O Rourke. The Boatmen were unable to respond and the only slight scare for City came in the 70th minute when VT s Mike Spinney tried to capitalise on a goalmouth scram- ble but the danger was quickly cleared by the combination of Gunn and Perpetuini. City continued to press and extend their advantage with Steele, Bell and Pond forcing O Rourke into action. Substitutes Jamie Brooks and Michael Alexis replaced Mark Bell and Mark Janes late in the second period as City closed down the game, allowing the frustrated Boatmen scant possession. City now look forward to learning who they will face in the next round.
