The county s Youth Crime Action Plan was given funding by the government to start a range of activities, which would support young victims of crime. The youth Offending Team worked with the council, the police and victim support to offer services ranging from workshops, drop-in sessions, school assemblies, music, sport and youth clubs to outdoor activ- ity breaks and one-to-one sup- port. Now it has pledged to continue supporting young crime victims. Justice minister Bridget Prentice said: Oxfordshire has made its public pledge to con- tinue to support young victims and has secured additional funding to continue the one-to- one support. Now I want to encourage more communities across England and Wales to establish their own projects, using the success of these five pilots as an important guide. The Oxfordshire scheme was part of five pilot schemes set up around the country. The other locations were Lewisham, Lambeth in south London and Norfolk and Derby. A MAIL order company based in Berinsfield has been ordered to pay 8,845 at Hammersmith Magistrates Court for failing to recover and recycle up to 197 tonnes of packaging waste. OKA Direct Limited sells a range of household items from its 12 stores and online service. The company pleaded guilty on Monday last week to failing to register as a producer of packaging and to failing to meet its requirements to recover and recycle packaging waste between 2004 and 2007. The charges followed an Environ-ment Agency investi- gation. The company was fined 4,000 and ordered to pay 1,750 in costs to the Environment Agency. The court also ordered it to pay compen- sation of 3,080 to the Environment Agency for the lost registration fees, plus a 15 victim surcharge. Lindsey rallies a mums army to save the day for charity WITH a little help from her friends, an enterprising army wife from 23 Pioneer Regiment in Bicester raised more than 4,700 for a charity that sup- ports injured and disabled servicemen. Lindsey Roberts, 28, whose husband is currently serving in Afghanistan, stepped in when the yearly corps weekend for the regiment was cancelled due to the soldiers serving overseas. Mrs Roberts and the Mums and Tots Group at St David s Barracks in Ambrosden, with support from the Bicester army welfare team, went ahead and organised the family fun day on Saturday. Members of the local commu- nity were invited along to enjoy themselves in aid of Help for Heroes, which aims to raise 20m to build seven houses across the country for wounded soldiers. PICTURES COURTESY OF David Sarjent REPORT by David Sarjent While she raised over 1,200 on Saturday, a team of army lads contributed to her cause by rais- ing 3,500 in a marathon static rowing session outside the 24- hour Tesco in Pringle Drive on August 20 and 21. Lindsey said: We just wanted to raise money for Help for Heroes because all our lads are in Afghanistan at the moment and this is a cause close to everybody s heart. The army stepped in to help Mrs Roberts run the day by pro- viding manpower and equip- ment. Sergeant Major Charlie Wood, 32, said: We assisted Lindsey today setting up the logistical chain for the event to help her raise as much money as possi- Bonny winner A DOG owner from Grove scooped victory at the Kennel Club International Agility Festival in Northampton. Julie Morgan and her Weimaraner Bonny won the Kennel Club Starters Cup at the festival, which took place at Kelmarsh Hall from August 14 to 16. Julie said: This is the largest agility festival in the world, so to have won a prize is absolutely amazing. Fairground rides at the army fun day ble for Help for Heroes through- out the world. Attractions on the day for the 650-plus visitors included bouncy castles, plaque-painting, fairground rides, gladiator bat- tles on raised podiums with pugil sticks, food stalls and model electric car racing. Bicester town councillor John Cozens praised the army mums get up and go spirit, saying: I think it is a marvellous event and feel all the praise should go to Mrs Roberts. She is the one who has organ- ised it as all the fellows are away on tours of duty they re either out in Afghanistan, Iraq or Cyprus. For the wives to get together and to take their place and do what the men usually do, I think is excellent. All I can say is good luck to her I hope they raise a lot of money.
