Anthony Browne, the chil- dren s laureate, said: Read- ability is such a wonderful ini- tiative, encouraging children to read, draw and think creatively. Children can do these things naturally but most of us lose them as we get older. I m hoping that Readability will help to instill these abilities into every child for life. They will be set off from the White Horse Show at Uffington at around 1.30pm on Sunday, carrying a 13.5m ladder 60 miles to the station in Headington. The firefighters are raising money for Respite Nursing for Oxford-shire s Sick Youngsters and aim to arrive at around 1pm on Monday. To support of the firefighters efforts visit www.justgiving. com/laddercarry and generally improve the envi- ronment for pedestrians, we decided to go ahead with the plan and it is now good to see that plan on the threshold of coming in to operation.
