Can you tell us more about the new developments? A. Firstly, it should be noted that AS7 is a community effort, which will lead into the forthcoming JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6. AS7 has a number of new developments including: Blazing Speed: JBoss AS7 offers a 10-fold reduction in startup time over previous versions. Services are started concurrently to eliminate unnecessary waits and leverage multi-core processors, while non-critical services remain passive until first use. Lightweight: An aggressive approach to memory management and metadata indexing keeps the footprint exceptionally small, enabling it to run with stock JVM settings and on small devices. Modular Core: JBoss Modules offer true application isolation, hiding server implementation classes and only loads the classes your application needs. Q. What makes JBoss AS7 different compared to others currently available? A. Numerous differences exist between AS7 and competitor products, most notably revolving around performance, modularity and flexibility. AS7 introduces a new modular architecture which promotes extremely fast startup times. It also supports many of our innovative and 1st class APIs including CDI/Weld, HornetQ and Infinispan. Not only does JBoss have a strong advantage from those technologies, but more importantly all of these are made available to address a wider range of deployments, ranging from traditional Hardware Servers to Mobile and PaaS environments. Since many of our projects today use GIT, and the dynamic redeployment in JBoss AS has always been an important feature for developers, we looked to combine the two in the cloud. OpenShift is purely community targeted and is a tech preview for that will be coming down the road there are plans to integrate OpenShift with Red Hats Cloud Forms, Red Hats Solutions for private, publc and hybrid clouds.
